The nature and application of molybdenum disilicide
Molybdenum Disilicide (Molybdenum Disilicide) is a molybdenum silicon compound, also known as molybdenum silicide, with the molecular formula MoSi2 and molecular weight of 154.13.
Since the radii of the two atoms are not much different, and the electronegativity is relatively close, they have properties similar to metals and ceramics. The melting point is up to 2030 ℃, it is conductive, and a silicon dioxide passivation layer can be formed on the surface to prevent further oxidation at high temperature. Its appearance is gray metal color, which is derived from its square α-type crystal structure, and it also has a hexagonal shape but is unstable Β-modified crystal structure. Insoluble in most acids, but soluble in nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid.
Molybdenum disilicide is used in high-temperature anti-oxidation coating materials, electric heating elements, integrated electrode films, structural materials, composite material reinforcements, wear-resistant materials, structural ceramic connection materials, etc., distributed in the following industries:
1) Energy chemical industry: electric heating elements, high-temperature heat exchangers for atomic reactor devices, gas burners, high-temperature thermocouples and their protective tubes, smelting vessel crucibles (used to melt metals such as sodium, lithium, lead, bismuth, tin, etc.).
2) Microelectronics industry: MoSi2 and other refractory metal silicides Ti5Si3, WSi2, TaSi2, etc. are essential candidate materials for large-scale integrated circuit gate and interconnection films.
3) Aerospace industry: As a high-temperature anti-oxidation coating material, it has been extensively and deeply researched and applied. Especially as a material for turbine engine components, such as blades, impellers, burners, tail nozzles, and sealing devices.
4) Automotive industry: Turbocharger rotors, valve bodies, spark plugs, and engine parts for automotive turbo engines.
